I deleted one using this tool, which was a dead entry. In fact, I could see 2 entries of Windows 8.

Here, under the Boot tab, I could see that my operating system was still being identified as Windows 8, in spite of having Windows 10 installed. In the Run box type msconfig and hit Enter to open the System Configuration Utility. Having done that, I renamed Windows 8 entry to Windows 10.

Moreover, on every start, I was shown the boot/OS selection screen and offered Windows 8 and Windows 8, as though it was a dual-boot system! If you too are facing a similar issue, where the incorrect Windows version is shown in the msconfig Boot Tab, you might want to follow this tutorial.įirst I removed the Windows 8 OS entry which led nowhere and kept only the working Windows 8 entry that booted into Windows 10. In spite of having successfully upgraded my Windows 8.1 PC to Windows 10, my operating system was still being identified as Windows 8.
